About us<\/h5>\n

The Mathematics Society is a platform for students and faculty to connect and share a passion for mathematics. We aim to promote learning, collaboration, and appreciation for the subject through a variety of engaging events, workshops, competitions and insightful publications.
\nThe society welcomes everybody, regardless of experience level, especially those who are new to mathematics. Together, we learn, grow and celebrate the role of mathematics in shaping the world.<\/p>\n

History<\/h5>\n

The Mathematics Society of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura was established on March 31, 2011, within the Faculty of Applied Sciences, under the guidance of Mrs. Tamara De Silva, the former Head of the Department of Mathematics, and the esteemed faculty lecturers. However, the idea of establishing the society had existed long before, driven by the aim to develop students’ mathematical knowledge and foster their interest in research and experimentation.
\nSince its inception, the Mathematics Society has become a platform for students to connect with lecturers and peers, exchanging experiences in research and leadership. A significant milestone was achieved in 2013 when the society extended its reach beyond the university, organizing a full-day seminar for school-children in the Kaluaggala area. Encouraged by its success, the society hosted a comprehensive seminar for 300 Advanced Level students, led by Senior lecturers, which further cemented its role in community engagement.
\nToday, the Mathematics Society stands as a thriving institution, enriching students’ knowledge and contributing to the community.<\/p>\n
