This primer scientific organization of Sri Lanka has a membership over five thousand scientists representing all the fields of science.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This year the theme is \u201c<i>Science for Health, Wealth and Long life<\/i>\u201d. This indicates that science will provide all our needs. However science is like a tree. To grow and a bear fruit a tree requires a suitable climate, good soil,\u00a0\u00a0 fertilizer and water. Similarly unless science is provided with funds,\u00a0\u00a0 it will not be able to grow and bring benefits to the people.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Annual Sessions is a science festival and it not only limited to presentation and discussion of scientific research but also enables school children to exhibit their inventions. A night sky observation camp with the biggest telescopes available in Sri Lanka other than at the Arthur C Clarke Center, will be held on 3<sup>rd <\/sup>December. Theme seminar on <i>\u201cWealth Creation through Science\u201d<\/i> is scheduled for 1<sup>st<\/sup> December with presentations from international and local experts. A panel discussion on chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology (CKDU) has been scheduled with presentations from experts in their field. The industrial exhibition held from 2<sup>nd<\/sup> to 4<sup>th<\/sup> December will\u00a0\u00a0 exhibit products from local Industries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We thank Prof. Sampath Amaratunga, Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayawardenepura for permitting us to hold the technical sessions at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. SLAAS is very grateful to Prof. Sudantha Liyanage, Dean, Faculty of Applied Sciences and the organizing committee for their hard work. We thank the National Science Foundation for participating at the Annual Sessions as a co- organizer.
