Our Journey
The Statistics Society of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura was established in 2009 aiming to make learning statistics more engaging and practical. The society focuses on enhancing students’ understanding of statistics by linking theoretical knowledge with real-world applications and providing industry connections to support career development. In addition to academic enrichment, the society emphasizes the development of essential soft skills such as teamwork, leadership, and communication through active involvement in planning and participating in events. This approach helps students grow personally and become more effective citizens.
Vision & Missions
The Statistics Society is propelled with the Vision of: “To improve awareness and facilitate education of Statistics in Sri Lanka at all levels.”
The Missions of the society are:
- To act as a bridge between school, university and the industry while adhering to industry expectations and giving back to the community.
- To provide effective programs in support of students studying Statistics in schools.
- Collaborate with the industry to provide an understanding of the industry expectations and to promote the importance of Statistics to students.
- To promote an active, engaged and diverse membership and to improve the lecturer-student relationship.
Events
Over the years, the society has expanded its activities significantly. It organizes a range of events, including workshops, seminars, and industry talks. Key events include the Annual Statistics Workshop for G.C.E. A/L students, as well as Quora competitions, Stat Day, and Stat Night. The highlight of the year is Estadistica, the Annual Statistics Convention, which brings together students and industry leaders from across Sri Lanka, offering a valuable platform for learning and networking.
