A major issue confronted in certifying forest plantations and wood-based industries in Sri Lanka according to international certification standards is the failure of criteria and indicators used in such certification systems to address local environmental, business/economic and socio-cultural conditions. The LEAP Sustainable Forestry Certification Consultative Program is designed to address this disparity, and it is aimed at providing a unique and country-specific set of criteria and indicators that are comparable with leading international certification standards. Under LEAP Certification Consultative program, the DFES experts will continuously work with the industry/client firm by providing the necessary advice and guidance to improve its environmental performance to match LEAP standards. Through LEAP Sustainable Forestry certification advisory program, it is further intended to facilitate acquiring of international sustainable forestry certifications desired by the client.
