Sumaiya Idroos and Pathmalal M Manage<br \/>\nJournal:\u00a0<em>Sri Lanka Journal of Aquatic Sciences<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Heavy metal contamination in aquatic ecosystems has become an emerging environmental issue. The stable physicochemical properties of heavy metals could result in bioconcentration and bioaccumulation in different organs of freshwater fishes. The present study records the accumulation of Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Chromium (Cr), Copper (Cu) and Zinc (Zn) in the head, muscle and skin regions of seven fish species namely, Labeo rohita, Oreochromis mossambicus, Oreochromis niloticus, Etroplus suratensis, Heteropneustes fossilis, Oligolepsis acutipennis and Puntius dorsalis collected from Minnerya, Parakrama Samudraya and Kaudulla reservoirs in Polonnaruwa district, Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/science.sjp.ac.lk\/zoo\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2018\/06\/Heavy-metal-paper-Pathmalal-n.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1124 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/science.sjp.ac.lk\/zoo\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2018\/06\/heavy-metal.jpg\" alt=\"heavy-metal\" width=\"759\" height=\"527\" srcset=\"https:\/\/science.sjp.ac.lk\/zoo\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2018\/06\/heavy-metal.jpg 759w, https:\/\/science.sjp.ac.lk\/zoo\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2018\/06\/heavy-metal-40x28.jpg 40w, https:\/\/science.sjp.ac.lk\/zoo\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2018\/06\/heavy-metal-300x208.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 759px) 100vw, 759px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Author: Hiran Wijesinghe, F.
