The Department of Physics, Faculty of Applied Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, successfully conducted Physics Unbound 1.0 Physics Exhibition on 16 July 2026 at the Department premises. The exhibition was organized jointly by the Department of Physics, Physics Society, Astronomy Club, and theElectronics and Embedded Systems Society with the objective of promoting scientific knowledge, innovation, and the practical applications of physics among students and the general public.
The exhibition showcased more than 40 exhibits covering a wide range of physics concepts and real world applications. These exhibits were designed and presented by academic staff, demonstrators, and undergraduate students, providing visitors with an engaging and interactive learning experience.
Several special events were conducted alongside the exhibition, including:
- Day Sky Solar Sunspot Observation Camp
- Water Bottle Rocket Demonstrations
- Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and Drone Interactive Sessions
- Robotic Challenge Competition
- Half-Life Crossword Puzzle Competition
- Eye Clinic and Vision Screening Programme
These activities attracted significant interest and provided visitors with valuable hands on experiences in science and technology. The eye clinic, conducted in collaboration with the Department of Optometry, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, offered free eye screening services to participants throughout the day.
The exhibition was attended by a large number of visitors, including members of the University community, school students and teachers, and the general public. The event successfully created a platform for scientific outreach and strengthened the connection between the University and the wider community.
In addition to its outreach and educational objectives, Physics Unbound 1.0 was conducted as a key activity under the Faculty of Applied Sciences Corporate Plan, supporting the Faculty’s strategic goals of promoting science education, community engagement, innovation, and industry collaboration. The exhibition provided a valuable platform for knowledge dissemination, public awareness of scientific developments, and strengthening partnerships between the University, schools, industry, alumni, and the wider community. The successful completion of the event represents a significant contribution towards achieving the Faculty’s vision of fostering excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and societal impact.
The Organizing Committee extends its sincere gratitude to Senior Professor Upul Subasinghe, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, for his continuous guidance, encouragement, and support throughout the planning and implementation of the event. His leadership played a significant role in the success of Physics Unbound 1.0.
