Advanced Level students in the streams of Arts, Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Commerce or Technology, who have obtained the stipulated Z score set for the B.Sc. (Special) Degree in Sports Science and Management by the University Grants Commission, can apply for the degree programme. Maximum number of students admitted to this course will be limited to fifty.
Career Opportunities
Graduates in this field may be employed as Physical Education teachers, nutritionists, performance analysts, sports coaches, sports therapists, fitness center managers, sports administrators, strength and conditioning specialists or retail managers of sports stores. Graduates may also be well positioned to undertake further training to become accredited physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, dieticians or clinical exercise consultants.
Course Overview
The study of Sports Science incorporates areas of Physiology, Psychology, General Anatomy, Nutrition, Sports Technology, Sports Medicine, Forensic Science in Sports, Sociology, Performance Analysis, Sports Biomechanics, Sports and Financial Management etc.
Course Structure
The Sports Science and Management Degree is a Special Degree with full-time course work consisting of four academic years (eight semesters). Students need to complete 120 credits of coursework/research to qualify for award of the Bachelor of Science in Sports Science and Management Degree.
Mode of Instruction and Assessment
Assessment of course units are varied, and are comprised of coursework, presentations, assignments and research reports. Students are given the opportunity to give oral presentations as a part of formative assessment tasks, and are encouraged to develop practitioner skills alongside academic skills through the use of different assessment methods.
