“Uni –In Alliance – 2015”

“Un –In – Alliance – 2015” was the first undergraduate symposium organized by the students of B. Sc. (Honours) Degree Programme in Applied Sciences. The Symposium was held on 05th January, 2015 at the Faculty of Applied Sciences Premises. The symposium was concluded successfully with 52 participants who were undergraduates of B. Sc. Hons Degree Programme.

Guest speeches were delivered by Dr. A. D. U. S. Amarasinghe, University of Moratuwa & Prof. Preeti Udagama, University of Colombo. Also, Prof. Sudantha Liyanage – Dean, Faculty of Applied Sciences, USJP addressed the audience.

The students presented 26 oral presentations & 26 poster presentations in Chemistry & Material Science, Industrial Relations & Management, Polymer Science, Environment & Waste Management and Statistics & Information Technology Tracks.

The symposium was coordinated by Dr. Pahan Godakumbura – Coordinator, B. Sc. (Honours) Degree Programme in Applied Sciences and the symposium was funded by UDG / HETC grant.

Dr. Mahesh Karunarathne, senior Lecturer, Department of Chemistry, University of Sri Jayewardenepura made the students aware of designing a scientific presentation and how to enhance its effectiveness by understanding the audience. Furthermore, he focused on the preparedness for the presentation. According to him, time management and body language during the presentation should be preplanned and practiced.

The great speech given by Prof. Raj Somadeva, Senior Lecturer & Professor in Archaeology, Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology, University of Kelaniya was about the beginning of the existence of human habitats in ancient Sri Lanka. He presented the evidences that they have found from their archeological explorations about Sri Lankans’ great history even before the arrival of Aryans.
