Student Achievements at 2nd International Research Symposium, Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine.

The Department of Chemistry is pleased to share with you the outstanding accomplishments of two of Chemistry special degree undergraduate students who participated in the 2nd International Research Symposium, which took place on March 1, 2024, at Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine. 

Under the following categories, Ms. Kithmini Ranathunga and Ms. Ineesha Senadheera, who are being mentored by Dr. Imalka Munaweera, have been awarded the Best Presenter Awards. 

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to them for this remarkable achievement. 

  1. Ms. Kithmini Ranathunga – Best presenter in the Nanotechnology session

Title of the talk – Preparation and characterization of Fe doped ZnO nanohybrids as a potential self-sterilizing photocatalytic material

2. Ms. Ineesha Senadheera – Best presenter in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Medicinal Resources and Ecology session

Title of the talk – Synergistic activity of antioxidants intercalated layered double hydroxides as a potential active packaging material

ChemSoc Annual General Meeting

The Chemical Society of University of Sri Jayewardenepura held its Annual General Meeting on
Thursday, the 11 th of January 2024 at the premises of the Department of Chemistry. The meeting was graced by the presence of Prof. Champa Jayaweera, the Head of the Department of Chemistry, along with other senior lecturers of the department.

The minutes of the previous AGM were read by the outgoing secretary Ms. Dulanjani Gamage. The updated constitution of the Chemical Society was presented and with a unanimous vote in favor from all the attendees at the meeting, the updated constitution was approved as the official constitution of the Chemical Society of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The Crucible, the annual publication of the Chemical Society, was also officially released at the AGM, and was presented by the Editor, Ms. Prasadi Attanayake, to Prof. Champa Jayaweera.


The new office bearers of the Chemical Society for the year 2023/24 were then appointed, and Dr.
Suneth Rajapaksha was appointed by Prof. Champa Jayaweera as the new Senior Treasurer of the
society. The incoming president, Ms. Minduli Perera, addressed the gathering. Certificates were
awarded to the outgoing office bearers and committee members of the previous year. The vote of
thanks was delivered by the newly appointed secretary Ms. Shoana Inch, and the Annual General
Meeting was concluded by the singing of the National Anthem.
