Once submitted, your application will undergo the following review stages:
Initial Administrative Review:
Upon submission, the ERC conducts an initial administrative review to ensure that all required documents are included, and that the proposal is formatted correctly. Proposals that do not meet these basic requirements may be returned to the researcher for revision before further evaluation.
Ethical Review:
Once the proposal passes the initial review, it is assigned to a panel of ERC members for a detailed ethical review. The committee assesses:
- Informed Consent: Ensuring that participants are fully informed about the research and provide voluntary consent.
- Risk Assessment: Evaluating potential risks to participants and ensuring that they are minimized and justified.
- Confidentiality: Reviewing measures to protect participants’ data and confidentiality.
- Compliance with Guidelines: Ensuring adherence to institutional, national, and international ethical guidelines.
Feedback and Recommendations:
After the ethical review, the committee may provide feedback, which could include suggestions for revisions or additional safeguards. Researchers are encouraged to address these recommendations and resubmit their proposals if necessary.
Final Decision:
Once all ethical considerations are satisfactorily addressed, the ERC will make a final decision regarding the proposal’s approval. The outcome and any conditions or requirements for conducting the research will be communicated to the researcher.
- Duration
- The regular review process will take 60 days, during which the decision will be conveyed to the applicant. Therefore, the applications should be forwarded before commencing the project allowing sufficient time for review.
