The Quality Assurance Cell (QAC) of the Faculty of Applied Sciences successfully organized a workshop titled “AI Integration for Academics in Teaching, Assessment, and Research” on 24th November 2025 at the Blended Learning Centre.
The workshop was conducted by Prof. Hiran Amarasekara, a leading expert in Artificial Intelligence in Sri Lanka. He brought valuable insights into how AI can be effectively applied within the university teaching and research environment. As an academic from the Department of Forestry and Environmental Science, he was able to convey the ideas in a manner that was easy to understand and directly applicable to daily academic work.
The event attracted a large number of academics, highlighting the growing need to understand and adapt to AI-driven transformations in higher education, and participants were actively engaged throughout the workshop.
Across the three-hour program, Prof. Amarasekara delivered a comprehensive, insightful, and highly relevant workshop, linking AI applications directly to real-world academic scenarios. As today’s students increasingly rely on AI tools, Prof. Amarasekara emphasized the importance of academics possessing accurate, up-to-date knowledge of AI. He introduced a range of novel approaches that educators can adopt to enhance teaching, improve assessment strategies, and support innovative research practices. These insights helped participants understand how AI can be integrated responsibly, effectively and safely within the academic environment. His ability to communicate complex concepts clearly made the session especially impactful.
