Nine academic staff members of the Faculty of Applied Sciences were recognized at the prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) Awards 2024, under the SUSRED (Support Scheme for Supervision of Research Degrees) category. This recognition reflects the faculty’s continued excellence in postgraduate education, research mentorship, and its strong commitment to advancing scientific knowledge in Sri Lanka.

The NSF Awards, presented annually, aim to acknowledge and reward outstanding contributions to national scientific development through NSF-funded initiatives. The SUSRED scheme is specifically designed to motivate, support, and recognize scientists who supervise postgraduate research degrees particularly PhD and MPhil programs and play a pivotal role in shaping the country’s next generation of researchers.

Senior Prof. Pathmalal M. Manage, Prof. Upul Subasinghe, Prof. A.R. Kumarasinghe, Prof. Meththika Vithanage, Prof. Imalka Munaweera, Emeritus Prof. K.K.D.S. Ranaweera, Dr. Asitha Cooray, Dr. Anushka Rajapaksha, and Dr. Laksiri Weerasinghe were awarded for their exceptional contributions for the timely supervision of both PhD and MPhil degrees showcasing the depth of expertise and mentorship within our academic community.

This year’s NSF Awards ceremony was especially significant for the Faculty of Applied Sciences, as both the Vice Chancellor of the University, Senior Prof. Pathmalal M.
