The 8th Annual Scientific Sessions & International Conference of the Sri Lankan Association for Laboratory Animal Science (SLALAS) was held on 23rd and 24th January 2021. Ms. N.P.Ranatunga of the Department of Zoology received the Best Oral Communication award for the abstract titled “The genotoxicity assessment of Stylissa carteri and Axinella sp. marine sponge extracts by Allium cepa bioassay”.Ms Ranatunga’s presentation was based on her undergraduate research project, which was supervised by Dr Varuni Gunathilake, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Zoology.
The Journal Gender and the Genome has offered a $2,500 prize for the best paper on male infertility published by Prof. Dinithi Peiris, Professor in Zoology, Department of Zoology, Faculty of Applied Sciences in the year 2019.
The title of the paper is Male Infertility Problem: A contemporary Review on Present Status and Future Perspective published on 12th August 2019.

“මියැසි දියසර – ගී පැදුර, the annual musical evening organized by the Aquatic Students’ Association of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura was successfully held at the “Ehela wala” premises on 05th September 2019 for the third consecutive time with the participation of the lectures, non-academic staff and students of the university.
Felicitation was honored to Senior Professor Ajantha De Alwis for the excellence of 30 years service given to the Department of Zoology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
