“What is it?” –

Members of the ‘Vidudaya Vidya Sahodarathvaya’ of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the university are gearing up for their major community service project ‘Sahurda yathra’ for the 9th consecutive time.

The aim of this project is to lend a helping hand to the underprivileged students of a rural school by donating a much needed library facility. This year they have selected Kekirawa Thibbatuwewa Maha Vidyalaya in the Anuradhapura District, where around 1500 students study from grades 1 to 13. The current condition of the school’s library is not satisfactory and ‘Sahurda Yathra’ hopes to upgrade it.

The ‘Vidudaya Vidya Sahodarathvaya’ has successfully done this eight times before in following schools.

2008 – Padikaramaduwa(පඩිකාරමඩුව) Wijaya Maha Vidyalaya – Anuradhapura

“How can I contribute?” –

Collection centers are set at the university premises to collect both financial and other sort of donations. You can donate books (new or used, fiction or educational) written either in Sinhala or in English. Please make sure they are suitable for children of the ages between 6 to 18 years.

“Till when?” –

Your donations will be accepted till the end of this month.

“Why ?” –

It is a worthy cause to help a bunch of students in desperate need of reading material.

As responsible youth of the present generation, let’s make a difference in their lives by opening a whole new world to them through books.
